Hi, I'm Dr. Talia Marcheggiani, ND

My journey starts as a pre-med student. I was studying Life Sciences at Queen’s University on track to be a medical doctor.

However, I’ve never really gone down the conventional route.

When my health started to decline, I started to question things.

I was experiencing severe burnout and hormonal issues, missed periods, extreme bloating, weight gain, debilitating fatigue, skin issues, and depression. My grades were suffering.

I was supposed to be learning about the human body: biochemistry, neuroscience, anatomy, physiology, immunology, microbiology, and molecular biology. And yet, in all of these sciences, I couldn’t locate information that pointed to the the root of my concerns.

So I sought help from professionals: general practitioners, family physicians, and endocrinologists. Some of them ran blood tests. But, they all told me the same things: I was fine–there was nothing wrong me with me, my symptoms were all in my head. One even suggested I was eating too much and needed to go on a reduced calorie diet.

I felt invalidated, ignored, and completely hopeless.

Since conventional medicine couldn’t help me, maybe I was broken.

After graduation, I moved to Colombia, to teach English.

While I was there, I continued to suffer from the same symptoms.

I was eventually put on an anti-depressant.

The side effects were horrendous. I slept all day and occasionally flew into fits of rage without warning or explanation.

When I decided to come off of them, I suffered the withdrawal effects, which might have been worse.

Eventually a friend suggested I see a “natural doctor”.

As a scientist, I was skeptical. But, as a curious and open-minded individual, I was hopeful.

As soon as I entered his office, things felt different.

This doctor listened.

He asked about my diet, my sleep, and my thoughts, among other things. Most of the other doctors had rushed me out of the office.

He paid attention in a way that made me feel powerful. His questions showed he cared.

He put it all together for me, explaining the cause of my symptoms.

And then he provided me with an answer: a strategy for healing.

I started to get better. I was intrigued.

A few years later I applied to the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine to become a registered Naturopathic Doctor.

My first day of class, I was finally home.

My background in science, and teaching married my passion for health, art, and psychology. I was in a place that encouraged my curiosity, and satisfied my need to seek answers beneath common and incomplete explanations.

I was given a powerful set of tools with which to further heal myself. When I graduated and obtained my license I was able to use those tools to help thousands of others (and counting).

Naturopathic medicine truly is the medicine of humanity–and I believe it is the medicine of the future.

I am proud to call myself a naturopathic doctor.

I am lucky to have found a profession that encompasses most of me.

I am a doctor, a healer, a writer, a teacher, a nature lover and tree hugger, a philosopher, a poet, a detective, an herbalist, an acupuncturist, a yoga teacher, a meditation instructor, a podcaster, an educator, and a communicator.

I’m a scientist.

And an artist.

I’m a servant of humanity.

And the earth.

I have a passion for research and learning and I find joy in communicating my knowledge with others.

I have the gift of pattern recognition and an insatiable appetite  for knowledge and new experiences.
